Linhof "Technar" 4x5, 75mm f5.6 Super Angulon 14344051 - 1804098

This Linhof 4x5 camera is similar to a Technar in that there is no bellows and the lens is mounted in a helicoid. That is pretty much were it stops. This camera has front rise and is presently adjusted for about +10mm as its null setting. The movements are taped either to be fixed or to prevent light leaks. I am content leaving it as-is as the setting is pretty much perfect for most work. The camera shows average edge wear. The lens focuses smoothly. The shutter is accurate and the aperture works well. The glass is clean and clear with no haze, marks or fungus. This particular camera is a one owner that was acquired from Ken Hanson in NYC. I suspect the work was completed by Marty Forscher. It is very cool and I have never seen another like it.

What our Experts Think
  • Vintage large‑format wide‑angle heritage
The Linhof “Technar” 4×5 75 mm f/5.6 Super‑Angulon is a classic wide‑angle prime revered in analog large‑format photography for its optical design and historical significance in field cameras.
  • Excellent image coverage and sharpness
As part of Schneider‑Kreuznach’s Super‑Angulon family, this lens offers a very generous image circle and strong corner‑to‑corner performance when stopped down—ideal for landscapes, architecture, and interior work on 4×5.
  • Reliable, manual operation with leaf shutter
The built‑in shutter (usually a Compur or Synchro‑Compur variant) and fully manual controls deliver consistent exposures and dependable firing even decades after manufacture.
  • Distinctive vintage rendering
While optical coatings and design predate modern digital glass, many photographers appreciate the unique character and tonal qualities this Super‑Angulon imparts to film images.
  • Robust mechanical build
Solid German engineering ensures longevity and an engaging tactile feel—traits often prized by analog shooters and collectors alike.
  • Fully manual focus and aperture
No autofocus or modern electronics, so it’s best suited for deliberate, traditional shooting styles where you control every setting yourself.
  • Considerations before buying
Performance is best appreciated with precise technique (e.g., stopping down for edge sharpness) and the lens may require bellows extension or recessed boards on some 4×5 systems.

Maintenance Tips
  • Use Lens Caps & Shade
Protect the front and rear elements from scratches, dust, and accidental impact.
  • Clean Optics Carefully
Use a blower and soft microfiber cloth—avoid liquids or abrasive materials to preserve coatings.
  • Store in a Dry, Dust-Free Case
Prevents fungus, dust, and corrosion, especially in humid environments.
  • Handle Shutter & Aperture Gently
Avoid rough operation of the shutter and aperture mechanisms—these precision parts are delicate.
