Sigma 14mm F1.8 DG HSM Art - Sony - 322544

The Sigma 14mm 1.8 DG HSM Art is the worlds first 1.8 prime lens at the 14mm focal length. This fast wide prime features the same large aspherical element touted in the Sigma 12-24mm F4 Art to control distortion and create stunning imagery. An updated Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) provides fast and accurate autofocus while 3 Premium FLD and 4 SLD glass elements control chromatic aberration and sagittal coma flare. Building on the highly reputable Art line, the Sigma 14mm 1.8 DG HSM Art is designed to resolve the latest high megapixel DSLR sensors. Like each and every Global Vision Lens, the Sigma 14mm 1.8 DG HSM Art is handcrafted at our single factory in Aizu, Japan and undergoes individual evaluation before leaving Sigma’s facility.

What our Experts Think
  • World‑class ultra‑wide optical performance: Praised as one of the fastest full‑frame 14 mm primes ever made, this lens delivers remarkably sharp images with excellent control of chromatic aberrations and contrast, thanks to its advanced optical design with FLD, SLD, and aspherical elements.
  • Exceptional low‑light and astrophotography tool: The bright f/1.8 aperture lets you capture more light in night skies and dim environments, earning strong recommendations for astrophotography and nightscape work.
  • Robust build quality: Experts highlight its solid construction and precision engineering, suitable for demanding professional use — though it’s noticeably heavy and large compared with many modern mirrorless lenses.
  • Immersive wide perspective: With a 114° angle of view, this lens excels for vast landscapes, architecture, interiors, and creative wide scenes that benefit from dramatic perspective.
  • Corner performance nuances: Most reviewers note fantastic center sharpness, but some corner softness and aberrations at the widest apertures — typical of extreme ultrawides — encourage stopping down slightly for edge‑to‑edge critical work.
  • Specialized yet powerful: While some alternative options are lighter or more versatile, experts see this as a premium choice for photographers prioritizing ultra‑wide reach and low‑light capability.
